Childs Play

I decided a long time ago that I was going to do my best to remain Parsons Mom aka Parent and not try to be his best friend. Though me being his best friend rather than parent may have its perks, I have watched that scenario not work on a few different occasions. Anywho...while trying to be a "parent" and guiding Parson into good behavior while learning to speak, understand his emotions, and become a healthy 15 month old, we try to have a little fun around here. Lately...fun has equaled messy...

Parson LOVES playing with toilet paper, instead of just saying "No No Parson" every time we were in the bathroom. I decided that I would give him a roll to play with in the loft. He had a BLAST and giggled non stop. Though it was kind of a pain to pick up all the paper bits...I don't regret letting him play with it at all. A perk to this...he dose not want to play with it in the bathroom anymore.

I got an email last week saying an easy way to entertain a toddler is a few small containers of water and dish soap. The email also said, "if your worried about a mess, lay a SMALL drop cloth" Well as you can see here...I had two blankets and two bath towels...which I thought was bigger than  a "small drop cloth" Again Parson had a blast. Water was every were... cupboards, oven, microwave, stove, floor, table, high chair, himself, and I. I almost regretted this one while I was cleaning up...but the giggles and smiles made it all worth it.

Have fun, make messes, and most of all make memories...the clean up is worth it.

Hokie pete...I made a diaper!

That's right you heard me...I made a prefold diaper cover! I made it from PLU (waterproof) fabric so this will replace my Bummies whisper pants (well one pair at least) which are just plain old fashioned plastic pants! I got the pattern from the Dana Made Blog.

Don't look to close...this is only the third thing I have ever sewn, so my details are rough. The first two things were a pillow case and a bean bag :/  so I don't think that was sewing at its finest.

I went to Joann Fabrics to pick up fabric for a bibs, receiving blankets and burp cloths. I know to ladies who are expecting little girls, so this Mamma to a boy had a blast picking out all sorts of girly fabrics! While drooling over all the cute girl (and boy) stuff, I came across a section all for cloth diapers! That's right you heard me right again, Joann Fabrics has a specific section for crazy Mamas like me who want to make (er try) their cloth diapers to save a penny or two.

Here is a picture of one kind of super cute girly fabric that I bought for my lady friends who are going to have daughters :)

Isn't it so stinking cute....don't judge me if I make a diaper cover with blue flowers for Parson. Just kidding, but seriously...we are going to be in trouble if we have a girl next. :s

Me

Today I realized I needed to make a run to the grocery store. This of course has two outcomes:

1.) I take Parson with me and hope that there are no meltdowns and run through the store hoping I don't forget something

or

2.) I go after Parson is in bed and enjoy a decaf skinny vanilla latte

I think you know that I chose option 2.

So we did just that. We bathed Parson, read him his two stories, and said our prayers. Then I ran down stairs to change my tank top that had who knows what from the day on it. I brushed my hair for...dare I admit the first time since it had been dried, re applied deodorant and applied vasaline on my lips. As I did this, I glanced at my reflection. I grabbed my license, debit card, coupons, phone and put them in the pocket of my shorts. That's right you heard me...no purse or bag.

As I was driving to Kroger thinking about how I was going to reward myself with said decaf vanilla skinny latte. I got to thinking about my get out the door routine went. This made me think of my getting ready routine in the morning and realizing how different my opinion of "decent to go out in public" had changed.

Before I was pregnant/gave birth it took me about an hour to get ready. I would shower, shave, blow dry my hair, curl my hair, and do my makeup. Then of course try on about 12 different outfits and then pick accessories. Then spritz perfume.

After giving birth it takes about 30 min for me to get ready, including a shower and shave! I then grab something that is modest, comfortable, and toddler friendly. Brush my wet hair so it can air dry, brush on translucent powder, mascara, and lip balm. On a good day you will get eyeliner and a splash of vanilla body spray.

Do I think I look much different...maybe. Am I sorry that I am not "in style" or "made up"...nope. Am I presentable and do the two men that matter most in my life approve...yep.

So there ya have it. If you see me in the store or at the park and my hair is wet, I am not made up and I am wearing clothes from 2002, I don't mind and neither does my family...because we are happy.

I think maybe we should all take a look at how we spend our tiem and see if the line up with the verse below;

1 Peter 3:3-4

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

Quotes that make me smile

Here are a few motherhood quotes (and a picture) that I have read recently...they all put a smile on my face, I hope they do the same for you :)

"Whoever said don't cry over spilled milk has never pumped 6 oz and then spilled it"

"I don't need a big fancy vacation, I'd settle for a trip to the bathroom alone"

"Motherhood: when going to the grocery store alone is a vacation"

"I love cleaning up messes I didn't make...so I became a Mom"

"Cleaning a house with kids is like brushing your teeth while eating Oreos"

"I would like to be the ideal mother, but I am to busy raising my kids"

"Good Moms have sticky floors, dirty ovens, and happy kids"

"Parenting is a terrible job when you think about it: long hours, no pay, the boss is moody and demanding, and the benefits don't kick in till years later...Enh, at least my co worker is hot."

Besides these quotes my venture with my new sewing machine is making me smile to. Keep your eye out for the next post or two, I am going to be making a cloth diaper cover as well as a toy tether.

Utensils?

I have been giving Parson eating utensils for him to get used to. So far he will hold them, much like a cave man...er boy. He manages to get some a little food in his mouth, the rest ends up on his face, clothing, or floor. After a few bites he puts the utensil in his left hand and continues eating with his right hand.

When he eats black beans...he looks like he needs a good shave.

Toddler Testing

Parson is now 14 1/2 months to be exact. Like I said in my previous post, he is getting so smart...almost to smart for his own britches.  So instead of complaining I started laughing at some of the things that Parson has been doing:

I put him down for his afternoon nap...he seemed like he was going to drift to sleep no problem like most days. I walk down stairs to research how to fix a broken wooden spool in our banister. What do I hear...not crying..not singing...nope....Parson jumping up and down in his crib. What came to mind? Not anger, not impatience...but the song "No more monkeys jumping on the bed"

We were playing outside and Parson let go of my head and took off running...which of course makes a Mommy's heart skip a beat. Then he came to a dead halt, leaned over and started laughing. I get to where he is at and try to figure out what is so funny...a snail. That's right and innocent little snail that decided to stick to our front door was a source of a lot of entertainment. Mind you, the snail was stationary, not even moving.

Parson has finally cut his bottom eye teeth just in time for his top ones to start. Because of this he has been beyond fussy. Today I was washing dishes and he was climbing at my legs saying "up up mama" at first I just said "one moment baby, Mommy needs to finish" he kept saying over and over again. Finally I looked down and his little fingers were in his mouth and I knew his teeth were hurting him. I grabbed a teething cookie and my sweet boy and I snuggled and watched Sesame Street.

So instead of being impatient...I was patient (as best as I could be) I think Parson and I both enjoyed the day a little more :)

Patty

Moo

Parson knows what all sorts noises. Up until this week you could ask him, "what does a gorilla say?" and he would respond "Waaa" while hitting his chest/belly. Or "what sound does a car make" and he will respond "vuum vum" or "bup bup" (beep beep)

This week he learned what a cow says "Moo"

Now regardless of what you ask him the answer is "Moo" and he thinks he is hilarious....which he is :)

14 Months

Whoa! Boy does time fly! My sweet Parson is 14 months old!

About a month and a half ago I started staying home full time with Parson. Boy has he developed since then! Walking, running, climbing, crawling, and TALKING...oh my word does this boy talk. Most time he tells me exactly what he wants.  When he is hungry he says "Na-na" because he eats bananas for breakfast. When he wants a nap or go to bed "Nu-nite", if he wants to go outside "Bu-Bye" and he has even started saying "Wov ooo" He understands so much to, I will ask, what sound does a cow make? He responds "Moo!"

We keep a pretty similar schedule each day. We keep busy around the house and try to only go bu-bye in the car once a week. We find lots of fun things to do, crafts, walks, walking to the park.

A lot of people think that I am board all "cooped up in the house" but to be honest, I love it.

There are days that we stay in our jammies, there are days that I cant wait till bedtime...but I love every second of it :)
